AUTHOR BIOGRAPHIES   Rosalyn   Sally

ROSALYN RIVKIN, MSW
Rosalyn earned a BA in Literature and History from Swarthmore College and her Master’s Degree in clinical social work from the University of Michigan where she was a National Mental Health Association Fellow.
She has long been a pioneer in presenting key concepts in psychology and family systems theory in a vivid and accessible way to individuals, families, and organizations.
During a forty year career as a psychotherapist, consultant, speaker, and educator, Rosalyn has worked in the private and public sectors: in graduate programs, university teaching and training clinics at the University of Michigan, The California Graduate School for Couple and Family Therapy, and The Sonoma Institute. She’s worked at child guidance centers such as The Irving Schwartz Institute at the Philadelphia Psychiatric Center and The Families with Dependent Children Program (a division of the Contra Costa County, California Child Welfare Department), the Michigan Public Education system and the Traveler’s Aid Society. She has also maintained her own private practice and consults with various businesses in Northern California and on the East Coast.
She has carried her messages to several continents and onto the high seas as ship’s mental health counselor with the University of Virginia/Institute for Shipboard Education’s Semester-at-Sea™ program.
Women in the workplace and child-rearing (She prefers to call it “child-raising.”) have always been two of Rosalyn’s most cherished priorities. She particularly enjoys working with teenagers, young adults, and their parents. Over the years, Rosalyn has seen firsthand the increasing unhappiness caused by being caught in overfunctioning and the Treacherous Triangle. In a world ever more complex, she has encouraged and helped women of all ages (18 to 80s) to gain uncommon sense. She has been inspired by the remarkable resilience and courage they show as they move forward.
Married and the mother of two daughters now off on their own, Rosalyn is a walker and stargazer, amateur stage manager, lover of stories, ships, and porches, watercolors, and weavings. She is a passionate world traveler.
